| Obverse description | Equestrian statue of Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu (Skanderbeg) depicted in full armour astride a prancing horse, facing right, holding a lance or standard upright in his right hand. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail, set upon a low plinth. The dates 1468 and 1968 appear in the left and right fields respectively, commemorating the 500th anniversary of Skanderbeg's death. The circular legend along the upper rim reads SHQIPËRI · ALBANIA, while the lower legend reads GJERGJ KASTRIOTI · SKËNDERBEU, all in Latin script separated by a beaded border. |
