| Reverse description | The reverse presents a dramatic allegorical composition evoking the widespread devastation wrought by the Second World War, rendered in high relief. A commemorative inscription referencing the conclusion of the war, INCHEIEREA CELUI DE-AL DOILEA RAZBOI MONDIAL, arcs across the field, accompanied by the numeral 1945 denoting the year of the war's end and the anniversary notation 70 ANI in recognition of the seventieth anniversary of that event. |

Issued to commemorate Romania's experience in the Second World War, this 2015 National Bank release belongs to a long-running Romanian commemorative silver program that has addressed historically sensitive subjects with notable directness. Romania's WWII involvement remains genuinely complicated — the country fought alongside the Axis until August 1944, then switched sides following the royal coup that ousted Ion Antonescu, ultimately suffering enormous casualties on both fronts.
