Additional information

Hurezi Monastery, founded by Wallachian prince Constantin Brâncoveanu in 1690, houses one of the most significant manuscript collections in Romanian Orthodox heritage — including illuminated gospel books that survived both Ottoman-era instability and later Communist-period neglect. This trial piece, struck to test the bimetallic composition and obverse die before full production approval, would never have entered circulation.

Brâncoveanu himself was executed in Constantinople in 1714 along with his four sons, refusing conversion to Islam.
