Ion Voicu (1923–1997) was Romania's most celebrated violinist of the twentieth century, long-serving concertmaster of the George Enescu Philharmonic and a cultural figure the Communist regime found simultaneously useful and difficult to fully control. This coin was issued on the centenary of his birth.
