Ioan Andreescu (1850–1882) died at thirty-one, leaving behind roughly a decade of serious work — yet he remains one of the most consequential figures in Romanian painting. He trained in Paris alongside Grigorescu and absorbed the Barbizon influence directly, though his palette ran darker and his handling of winter landscapes leaner than his better-known contemporary.
