The Perșinari Hoard, discovered in 1961 near the village of Perșinari in Dâmbovița County, is one of the most significant Dacian gold finds of the twentieth century. The deposit contained over 40 gold objects — bracelets, spiral ornaments, and other pieces — dating to the 1st century BC and attributed to the Getae or early Dacian cultural sphere. Romanian authorities moved quickly to secure the assemblage for the national collection in Bucharest.
This coin is part of the National Bank's ongoing "History of Gold" series, which uses small-format bullion issues to document Romania's archaeological gold heritage. The Perșinari material remains under study, with ongoing debate about whether the hoard represents a votive deposit or concealed personal wealth.
