Brâncuși died in Paris in 1957, a French citizen — Romania had refused to repatriate him after the communist takeover, and the regime that once dismissed his work as bourgeois formalism now places his image on legal tender. The Romanian state has been issuing collector silver in his name for decades, this 2024 piece being among the more recent additions to a long series of cultural commemoratives from the National Bank.
