Obverse description At the centre of the obverse, rendered in matte relief with varying degrees of surface matting, is the 18th-century coat of arms of Riga, in which the traditional lion supporters of the shield have been replaced by the double-headed eagle of the Russian Imperial heraldic tradition. The design is executed entirely in a frosted finish against a polished field, emphasising the intricate heraldic detail. Below the central armorial motif, the date 1997, the denomination numeral 10, and the inscription LATU appear in succession.
