Obverse description At the centre of the obverse, rendered in varying degrees of matte finish against the polished field, is Riga's municipal coat of arms as it appeared on coinage of King Gustav II Adolf's era in the 17th century. The heraldic device is presented with fine relief detail, conveying the historical character of the period. Below the central motif, the denomination numeral 10 and the inscription LATU appear alongside the date 1997, all in an upright Latin legend. The overall design employs a frosted relief technique to distinguish the central device from the surrounding field.
