Reverse description A full-bodied sable antelope (Hippotragus niger) stands in profile facing left, rendered in fine detail with its distinctive long curved horns rising above the animal. The figure rests on a rocky ground line at the centre of the field. The date 1978 is inscribed in the upper field above the animal, while the denomination 10 KWACHA appears in two lines along the lower arc of the coin. The engraving, by Norman Sillman, captures the naturalistic grace of this endangered African species in the context of the conservation series.
