The P#51 series sits within Malawi's post-2003 currency revision, which standardized denominations following years of inflation that had eroded the kwacha's purchasing power significantly. De La Rue's involvement was continuous throughout this period — the firm had been the dominant printer for Malawi since independence, giving the series a consistency of production quality across decades that few African central banks managed to maintain with a single supplier.
