Reversbeschreibung A crescent and five-pointed star, symbols of the Turkish national emblem, are prominently displayed in the upper portion of the reverse field. The denomination 10 KURUŞ appears in bold numerals and lettering at centre, with the year of issue inscribed at the base. The entire field is overlaid with an intricate Rumi-style arabesque motif of interlacing geometric and foliate patterns drawn from the tradition of Islamic decorative art, giving the coin a distinctive ornamental character.

Zusätzliche Informationen

The kuruş, subdivided from the lira, spent decades as a denomination so eroded by inflation that it existed on paper only — by the late 1990s, a single U.S. dollar was worth over 600,000 Turkish lira, rendering fractional coinage meaningless. The redenomination of January 2005 dropped six zeroes from the currency, and the kuruş was reborn as a functioning subdivision for the first time in a generation.

KM#1239 continues a series introduced after that reform, struck at the Istanbul mint facility that traces its institutional origins to the Ottoman imperial darhane of the fifteenth century.
