Printed entirely within Estonia by the Riigi Trükikoda, the 10 Krooni was one of the few interwar European notes produced wholly without contracting out to the major security printers — no Waterlow, no American Bank Note Company, no De La Rue. The engraving credit to Karl Doll, working under the name Tael, reflects a deliberate effort to build domestic technical capacity in a country that had only gained independence in 1918.
The Kroon itself was introduced in 1928, replacing the mark at 100:1 after years of postwar inflation. This series remained in issue until Soviet occupation in 1940 ended the Bank of Estonia's independent operation entirely.
