| Obverse description | Right-facing diademed effigy of Queen Margrethe II occupies the central field, rendered in refined relief with delicate facial detail and a tiara crown. The portrait is set against a smooth, polished field characteristic of proof-quality gold coinage. The circular legend MARGRETHE II · DANMARKS DRONNING arcs around the upper periphery, while the year 2007 appears in the lower field beneath the bust. The design reflects the work of engraver Lisbeth Nielsen in a restrained, classical style befitting a modern Danish commemorative issue. |

This piece belongs to Denmark's fairy tale coin series, issued to mark the bicentenary of Hans Christian Andersen's birth — a programme that ran across 2005 and continued into subsequent years with select gold issues. The Nightingale story, set in imperial China, was one of Andersen's own favourites among his works, reportedly because it addressed the tension between artificial courtly praise and genuine artistic worth, a theme he felt personally.
The .900 gold specification follows the traditional crown gold standard Denmark had used for commemorative issues since the late nineteenth century.
