| Beschrijving voorzijde | Diademed and draped bust of Queen Margrethe II facing right, engraved in high relief with fine detail to the crown and hair. The circular legend reads 'MARGRETHE II DANMARKS DRONNING' around the upper periphery, with the date '2008' inscribed at the base of the coin below the effigy. The portrait is rendered in the fourth official coinage effigy of the queen, as designed by Mogens Møller. |

The Sirius Patrol — Slædepatruljen Sirius — has monitored Denmark's claim to northeastern Greenland since 1950, operating dog sleds across some of the most inhospitable terrain on earth. The coin's release coincided with renewed international attention to Arctic sovereignty as climate change began opening previously inaccessible sea routes, making Danish presence in the region a matter of active geopolitical interest rather than ceremonial tradition.
Margrethe II's fourth portrait, by sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen's institutional successor at the Royal Danish Mint, replaced the third effigy that had appeared on the 10 kroner since the mid-1990s.
