Denmark struck this piece to mark the June 1968 marriage of Princess Benedikte to Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, a minor German aristocrat whose family seat in North Rhine-Westphalia had been largely destroyed during the Second World War. It was one of the last commemorative silver 10-kroner issues before Denmark began its gradual shift away from silver in circulation coinage — the .800 fineness already a compromise from earlier, purer standards.
