The "Christie-issue" name refers to Christian Christie, the bank's director who oversaw the series introduction — his involvement in the reverse design is unusual for a sitting bank official and reflects the degree of institutional ownership Norges Bank exercised over its note production during this period. Oluf Wold-Torne, better known as a painter than a banknote designer, contributed the artwork for both faces, an atypical choice that gives the series a noticeably different character from contemporaneous Scandinavian issues.
Production was split between Bradbury Wilkinson in Britain and Norges Bank's own printing works in Oslo, with the transition between printers detectable in minor variations across the 43-year run. Three distinct signature combinations mark the supervisory changes from Hansen through Cederholm to Meldahl-Nielsen.
