| Beschrijving keerzijde | The elaborately rendered Royal Danish coat of arms dominates the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing lions, hearts, and other heraldic charges, draped in an ermine-lined mantle and surmounted by a royal crown. Two wild men serve as supporters on either side of the shield. The denomination 10 KRONER appears in bold letters along the lower rim, flanked by the date to the left and the engraver's initials VBP with a heart mintmark to the right. Denmark's gold 10 kroner coinage of this period was a product of the Scandinavian Monetary Union, which bound Denmark, Sweden, and Norway to a common gold standard from 1873. By 1914, the Union was functionally dead — wartime gold hoarding and suspension of convertibility across Europe meant these coins vanished from circulation almost immediately after striking. Most survivors owe their condition to that hoarding, not careful handling.
Christian X ascended the throne in April 1912, and this series began the following year. The 1917 date is the last; Denmark suspended gold coinage that year and never meaningfully resumed it.
