| Beschrijving keerzijde | Imperial double-headed eagle displayed, with wings spread, bearing on its breast an escutcheon with the combined arms of Austria and Lorraine. The denomination X is shown in a rectangular frame below the eagle, flanked by decorative laurel branches on either side. | Aanvullende informatie |
Leopold II's 10 Kreuzer was struck across a reign cut brutally short — he died in March 1792 after less than two years on the throne, almost certainly from overwork and aggressive medical treatment following a fever. His brother Joseph II had spent decades centralizing Habsburg authority and suppressing traditional privileges across the Low Countries and Hungary, triggering near-continuous revolt. Leopold spent his entire reign walking those policies back, negotiating the Reichenbach Convention with Prussia in 1790 to avoid a two-front war while simultaneously pacifying the Belgian and Hungarian estates. The coinage reflects a monarchy in crisis management mode rather than consolidation.
