Additional information

Leopold I's 10 Kreuzer pieces from Vienna in the early 1680s were struck under considerable financial strain — the Habsburg court was simultaneously funding the defense of Vienna against the Ottoman siege of 1683, which was already anticipated and prepared for in the preceding years through emergency military levies. The Vienna mint was under pressure to produce subsidiary silver at pace, and die quality on this type is notoriously inconsistent as a result.

Herinek 1124 distinguishes this by obverse die characteristics specific to the Vienna striking, separating it from near-identical contemporaneous issues at Graz and Hall.
