| Additional information |
Nassau was reorganized as a unified duchy only in 1806, when Napoleon consolidated a patchwork of Walramian and Ottonian lines under Duke Frederick William. The 1809 coinage belongs to the earliest years of that imposed administrative order, struck while Nassau remained formally part of the Confederation of the Rhine and its monetary policy answered, at least indirectly, to Parisian priorities.
The .500 fineness reflects a deliberate halving of silver content relative to earlier regional issues — a concession to wartime fiscal pressure across the Rhenish states.
