Frederick I had secured the title of King only in 1806, a direct consequence of Napoleon's reorganization of German territories through the Confederation of the Rhine. Württemberg's coinage system was overhauled accordingly, and the kreuzer denominations of 1812 belong to this post-elevation rationalizing of the monetary system under a newly sovereign house.
The .500 fineness was deliberately low — reflecting broader German small-denomination practice of the period, where billon coinage was the practical answer to silver shortages compounded by Napoleonic war expenditure.
