Frederick I had been Duke, then Elector, then King of Württemberg in rapid succession — Napoleon elevated him to royal status in December 1805 as reward for joining the Confederation of the Rhine and abandoning Austria. The monetary reforms that followed were direct consequences of that political realignment, as Württemberg overhauled its coinage system to better integrate with French-dominated continental standards. This 10 Kreuzer was among the first issues to carry the royal title.
The .500 fineness was notably debased for a silver kreuzer of this region, reflecting fiscal pressures from Württemberg's military obligations to Napoleon's campaigns.
