Ferdinand V ruled Hungary as a constitutional king following the reforms of the 1830s Diet, but his reign ended abruptly when revolutionary pressure in 1848 forced his abdication in favor of Franz Joseph — a dynastic maneuver designed to sidestep Ferdinand's earlier concessions to Hungarian liberals.
