Ferdinand II's prolonged conflict with Protestant forces during the Thirty Years' War placed enormous strain on Habsburg mint output, and the St. Veit facility in Carinthia was pressed into service partly to meet military financing demands. Coins from this mint frequently show irregular planchet preparation — a known characteristic of the St. Veit output during this decade, not a strike failure unique to individual examples.
Ferdinand died in 1637, and production at St. Veit under his name ceased with him.
