Obverse description Armoured bust of Archduke Ferdinand II facing right, wearing a crowned helmet, with a sceptre held at the right side. The effigy is contained within a smooth inner circle. The legend, in Latin, commences at 12 o'clock and is interrupted by the crown at the top; the numeral value '10' appears between the abbreviations 'D' and 'G' in the lower portion of the field, denoting Dei Gratia.

Reverse description A composite heraldic shield displaying quartered arms: Hungary (barry of eight gules and argent), Bohemia (gules, a double-tailed lion or), Castile and León (quarterly, the castles and lions), and Austria with Burgundy combined. The shield is surrounded by a double circle, the outermost being beaded. The Latin legend begins at 12 o'clock, and the date 1571 is placed above the shield in the upper field.
