Charles II of Inner Austria — not to be confused with his uncle Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire — inherited a patchwork of territories in 1564 following the death of Ferdinand I, who divided his holdings among three sons. The Klagenfurt mint was active for Inner Austria during this period precisely because the new archduke needed to establish a distinct coinage presence quickly. The 10 Kreuzer denomination itself was a relatively recent innovation in Habsburg monetary practice, emerging from the broader mid-century effort to rationalize silver coinage across fragmented Alpine jurisdictions.
Production at Klagenfurt during 1565–1567 was uneven, and the mint's output was curtailed thereafter.
