10 Kreuzer/Zehner - Leonhard von Keutschach

Leonhard von Keutschach ruled Salzburg from 1495 until his death in 1519, and his tenure coincided with the archbishopric's aggressive expansion of its silver mining interests in the Gastein and Rauris valleys. The resulting bullion supply funded a prolific coinage program. Zöttl 57 and 58 represent two distinct die variants of this denomination, distinguished primarily by differences in the heraldic shield arrangement — a detail Zöttl was careful to separate despite the issues' near-simultaneous production across 1512 and 1513.

Keutschach had a famously combative relationship with the Salzburg citizenry, culminating in the expulsion of the burghers in 1511, just one year before this coin was struck.
