Nuremberg's 10 Kreuzer issues of this period fall squarely within the Seven Years' War, during which the city — technically neutral as a Free Imperial City — faced severe financial strain from quartering troops and disrupted trade routes. The civic treasury was under persistent pressure, and small silver fractional coinage was struck in higher volumes than peacetime demand would have warranted.
Slg. Erl#723 places this piece within the Erlanger collection reference, one of the more reliable anchors for Nuremberg municipal coinage of the 18th century.
