The field surrounding the device is smooth. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer rim, interrupted at the top by the Roman numeral date, reading AVGVSTA VINDELICORVM with the year expressed in Roman numerals (e.g. MDLXI for 1561). The overall style is characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century South German hammered coinage. |
