Reverse description A large, ornate Gothic letter B occupies the central field, flanked symmetrically by broad palm or laurel branches whose fronds curve gracefully outward to either side. An elaborate open crown with floral finials is positioned above the B, emphasising the civic authority of the Republic of Bern. The date 1716 appears in the lower field beneath the branches. The surrounding circular legend reads DOMINUS + PROVIDEBIT ·, a Biblical motto meaning 'The Lord will provide', rendered in Roman capitals.
