| Reverse description | A sensitively modelled right-facing bust of Jan Ámos Komenský (Comenius), the renowned Moravian educator and philosopher, dominates the field in high relief. He is portrayed as an elderly bearded man wearing a period skull cap, with flowing hair and a long beard rendered with fine detail, conveying a dignified and scholarly character. The legend 'J·A·KOMENSKÝ' arcs along the upper left rim, while the dates '1592' and '1670' — denoting his birth and death years — appear in two lines at the lower right of the field. The denomination '10 KČS' is inscribed along the lower rim, with the engraver's initial 'D' (for František David) discretely placed near the truncation of the bust. |

This issue was struck to mark the 300th anniversary of Komenský's Didactica Magna reaching a wider audience through its Latin publication — though Komenský himself had completed the work decades earlier in Czech. The Czechoslovak state found him a convenient ideological symbol: a Protestant exile who spent his final years in Amsterdam, yes, but also a man whose educational philosophy could be repackaged as proto-collectivist pedagogy. The coin was as much political framing as commemoration.
Half-silver issues of this period from the Kremnica mint are frequently found with uneven surfaces from the planchet preparation process.
