| 正面描述 | Central field occupied by the elaborate cursive imperial cypher of Emperor Paul I (Pavel I), formed by the Cyrillic letter П surmounted by the Roman numeral I, rendered in an ornate calligraphic style with flowing scrollwork terminations at each corner. The cypher is surmounted by a small imperial crown positioned at the apex. No legend appears; the design fills the field to the milled edge, conveying regal simplicity characteristic of Paul I's coinage reform of 1796–1801. |

Pavel I ordered the destruction of enormous quantities of Catherine II's coinage almost immediately upon her death in November 1796 — partly from policy, partly from personal hatred of his mother. The 1797 kopeck issues were among the first silver coins struck under his authority, and many were produced from silver reclaimed from that very demonetization campaign.
His reign lasted only four years before his assassination in 1801.
