10 Klippe Kreuzers - Johann von Belasi Maximilian II, thin type

Johann Jakob von Kuen-Belasy served as Archbishop of Salzburg from 1560 until his death in 1586, presiding over a see whose mint was among the most prolific in the German-speaking lands. Klippe — square-format — pieces from Salzburg in this period were almost certainly struck as presentation pieces or Schaugepräge rather than for general circulation, a common practice at prosperous ecclesiastical mints flush with silver from nearby Alpine mining operations.

The "thin type" designation distinguishes this from a thicker, heavier striking of the same die pairing documented by Probszt. Both types are rare; the thin version is the scarcer of the two.
