Reverse description A finely detailed rendering of a Lufengosaurus sauropod dinosaur dominates the field, depicted rearing upright on its hind legs with its long neck extended and tail sweeping to the left, set against a rocky prehistoric landscape. The serial name 'Lufengosaurus' is inscribed in italic Latin lettering diagonally across the upper left field. The arched legend PREHISTORIC ANIMALS curves along the upper periphery, split to either side of the central design. The date 1994 appears in the lower right field above the rocky ground line.

Additional information

Lufengosaurus was excavated from Lufeng County in Yunnan Province, China — directly across the border from northern Laos — making it a geographically logical choice for this Lao commemorative dinosaur series issued in the early 1990s. The genus was among the first complete dinosaur skeletons assembled in China, described by C.C. Young in 1941 during wartime conditions that severely limited international scientific dissemination of the find.
