Above the arms, a hammer and sickle surmounted by a five-pointed star are prominently displayed. A decorative ribbon at the base bears an inscription in Lao script. The circular legend 'THE LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC' arcs around the upper periphery in Latin script, with the denomination '10 KIP' positioned in the lower field beneath the arms. |

| Reversbeschreibung | A highly detailed rendering of a five-masted clipper ship under full sail occupies the central field, depicted underway on a stylized ocean with waves rendered in low relief across the lower portion of the coin. The vessel's five masts carry a full spread of square and fore-and-aft sails, with rigging rendered in fine detail, evoking the great German sailing barque Prussia. The curved legend 'FIVE MAST CLIPPER' arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin serif lettering. The date '1988' appears in the exergue area below the ship, above the wave motif. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
The Preussen (Prussia) was a German five-masted full-rigged ship launched in 1902 and remains the only vessel of that rig configuration ever built — a distinction that made her a recurring subject for foreign commemorative issues with no direct connection to the ship's history. Laos, landlocked and operating a state mint program heavily oriented toward export sales in the late 1980s, issued numerous nautical themes purely for the collector market.
The Preussen was lost in 1910 after a collision with a cross-Channel steamer in the English Channel, driven ashore at Fan Bay near Dover.
