Issued to mark the 2015 Pacific Games held in Port Moresby — the first time Papua New Guinea hosted the event — this commemorative circulated alongside the standard polymer 10 Kina series rather than being produced purely for collectors. Note Printing Australia had been supplying PNG's polymer notes since the late 1990s, and the Guardian® substrate used here is the same base technology developed by the Reserve Bank of Australia and licensed through NPA.
Pick 48 is occasionally misattributed to 2014 due to pre-issue promotion materials; confirmed issue date is 2015, concurrent with the Games in July of that year.
