| Beschrijving keerzijde | The central field depicts a Steppe Eagle (Aquila rapax) rendered in naturalistic detail within a panoramic Askania steppe landscape. The bird is shown in a characteristic pose, conveying the austere grandeur of its open-grassland habitat. Encircling the design along the upper periphery is the Ukrainian-language inscription ОРЕЛ СТЕПОВИЙ, with the scientific binomial AQUILA RAPAX appearing in Latin script along the lower arc. The composition reflects the broader Ukrainian commemorative series dedicated to the protection of native wildlife. |

Issued as part of Ukraine's "Fauna of Ukraine" series, this coin commemorates the steppe eagle (Aquila nipalensis), whose breeding range once covered vast tracts of the Ukrainian steppe before agricultural expansion and poisoning of ground squirrel populations — its primary prey — drove it to near-extinction in the region. By 1999, the species had been listed on Ukraine's Red Book of endangered animals for over a decade.
