The pectoral referenced here is the Scythian gold pectoral unearthed in 1971 from the Tovsta Mohyla burial mound near Pokrov, excavated by Boris Mozolevsky. It remains one of the most significant archaeological finds of the twentieth century — a fourth-century BC funerary ornament of extraordinary craftsmanship, now housed in the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine in Kyiv. Ukraine has returned to it repeatedly as a subject for commemorative coinage, and the selective gilding on this .999 silver issue is a deliberate nod to the original object's material.
