| Aanvullende informatie |
Issued amid the ongoing Russian occupation of Crimea, which began in 2014, this coin is an explicit act of cultural assertion by the Ukrainian state — the Crimean Tatar people, classified as an indigenous people of Ukraine under a 2021 law, have faced sustained suppression of their language, assembly, and religious practice under occupation. Ukraine has continued issuing coins honoring Crimean Tatar heritage precisely because the territory remains internationally recognized as Ukrainian.
The "ornek" is a traditional geometric embroidery pattern central to Crimean Tatar identity, inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2021.
