| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a stylized scene depicting a Ukrainian soldier — one of the so-called 'Cyborgs' — positioned in the foreground against the background of the partially destroyed control tower of Donetsk International Airport, above which a Ukrainian national flag flies. To the right, bullet-riddled metal structural elements occupy the field, beside a vertical inscription reading КІБОРГИ. UA / 26•05•2014 / 21•01•2015, commemorating the call sign of the defenders and the dates marking the beginning and end of the siege. The overall composition is rendered in a bold, conventionalized artistic style befitting a commemorative issue honoring military sacrifice. |

Issued four years after the siege ended, this coin commemorates the Ukrainian soldiers who held Donetsk International Airport against sustained Russian-backed separatist assault from May 2014 through January 2015. The defenders — nicknamed "cyborgs" by Ukrainian media for their seemingly inhuman endurance — held the terminal complex for 242 days before the main structure collapsed under shelling. The National Bank issued this piece as part of a broader series honoring the ongoing Donbas conflict, a politically charged decision given that the war had not concluded at the time of minting.
