| 背面描述 | The reverse presents a dynamic three-part narrative composition set against a parchment scroll background, depicting Prince Danylo of Halych (Danylo Romanovych) in ceremonial warrior's attire rendered as a central portrait figure. Flanking the prince are representations of medieval Rus' architectural structures and his armed princely retinue, conveying historical authority and military power. The upper field carries the two-line Cyrillic legend ДАНИЛО ГАЛИЦЬКИЙ / 1205–1264, identifying the prince and his regnal dates, while the lower field bears the two-line inscription КНЯЖА УКРАЇНА. The composition is engraved by Volodymyr Demianenko and executed in a style evoking medieval Rus' manuscript illumination and monumental relief carving. |

Danylo Romanovych — known to history as Danylo of Halych — unified the fragmented Rus' principalities of Galicia and Volhynia in the 13th century and was crowned King of Ruthenia in 1253 by a papal legate, the only Rus' ruler ever to accept a Latin crown. The coronation was part of a never-realized alliance with Rome against the Mongol Golden Horde, whose overlordship Danylo spent his reign strategically resisting and ultimately could not escape.
This 1998 issue belongs to Ukraine's early commemorative silver program, launched as the hryvnia itself was only just introduced — the currency had been in circulation barely two years when this coin was struck.
