Wösendorf an der Donau is a tiny wine-growing village in the Wachau, and this 10 Heller note is a product of Austria's postwar Notgeld crisis — the period when municipal authorities, starved of small change as the Habsburg monetary system collapsed, printed their own emergency scrip to keep local commerce moving. Eduard Sieger of Vienna was one of the more prolific small-house printers supplying these rural issues, handling dozens of Gemeinde contracts simultaneously in 1920.
The Jaksc catalog distinguishes two variants for this denomination; this is the "a" type.
