Austrian Notgeld at its most locally specific. Spitz an der Donau issued this note as part of the post-WWI small-change crisis that forced thousands of Austrian municipalities to produce their own emergency currency between 1919 and 1921 — the central supply of coins had effectively collapsed. Eduard Sieger was one of Vienna's more prolific Notgeld printers during this period, handling commissions from numerous Wachau communities.
The Schwallenbach designation distinguishes this within the Spitz series, which was catalogued across multiple design variants. The Jaksch/Pick suffix "IIa" indicates a specific paper or printing state within the type.
