10 Heller Unterach am Attersee

Unterach am Attersee is a small lakeside resort village in the Salzkammergut, and this 10 Heller Notgeld was one of hundreds of municipal emergency issues that flooded Austria between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the postwar coin shortage that left small-denomination metal currency almost entirely absent from circulation. Paul Gerin's Vienna workshop handled a significant volume of these municipal commissions, producing runs that were often as much a local fundraising and tourism souvenir exercise as a genuine transactional necessity.

The Heller itself was already a dying unit — Austria abolished it in 1924 when the Krone collapsed and the Schilling system replaced it entirely.
