Opmerkingen

Austrian municipal notgeld of this type was issued to address the acute small-coin shortage that persisted well after the First World War — the imperial coinage system had collapsed, and the new Republic was slow to produce subsidiary currency in sufficient volume. Taufkirchen an der Pram is a small Upper Austrian market town, and like hundreds of comparable municipalities it issued its own emergency fractional notes in 1920 under informal but widely tolerated arrangements with regional authorities.

These hyper-local issues were often printed in very small quantities by provincial jobbing printers, which makes survival rates genuinely uneven rather than uniformly scarce.
