| Opmerkingen |
Steinerkirchen an der Traun is a small market commune in Upper Austria, and this 10 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Notgeld issued by Austrian municipalities following the coin shortages that worsened after 1918. The Salzkammergut-Druckerei in Gmunden handled a significant volume of local emergency currency for the surrounding lake district — a regional printer doing regional work, which is exactly what this piece reflects.
The dual signatures of Aicher and Leitner indicate countersigning by local officials, a procedural requirement meant to authenticate what was otherwise an entirely informal monetary arrangement.
