Beschrijving voorzijde Printed in blue-grey on plain paper, this Notgeld note is laid out in three vertical panels divided by ornate rule borders beneath a bold Gothic-script title band reading 'Kassenschein der Gemeinde Stattersdorf'. The central panel carries a line-engraved vignette of the local school building (labelled 'SCHULE') set among trees, with the issue date 'Stattersdorf im Juli 1920' below. The denomination '10 Heller' appears in large numerals in both flanking panels, with liability and redemption texts respectively, and three manuscript signatures — those of the Bürgermeister and two Gemeinderäte — across the lower margin.

Opmerkingen

Stattersdorf was a small industrial commune near St. Pölten in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it issued its own small-denomination notgeld to address the chronic shortage of coin that persisted well after the First World War. The federal and provincial governments could not supply enough circulating small change, so local authorities — factories, municipalities, market towns — stepped in with their own paper.

The Jaksch catalog (the primary reference for Austrian notgeld of this period) distinguishes multiple varieties within this series, the "a" suffix here indicating the earliest or base printing. These notes were never intended to outlast the local need that created them.
