10 Heller St. Pantaleon

Sankt Pantaleon is a small Upper Austrian municipality, and this 10 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austria between 1919 and 1921 — a period when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from everyday commerce, hoarded or melted, leaving municipalities to fill the gap with locally issued emergency paper. The printer, Buchdruckerei Enns, was a regional press in the nearby town of Enns, one of the oldest continuously settled sites in Austria, and handled similar commissions for surrounding communities throughout the period.
