Comments

A joint issue between two neighboring Lower Austrian municipalities, this 10 Heller Notgeld was part of the broader emergency small-change crisis that gripped Austria in the immediate postwar years, when hoarding of metal coinage left everyday transactions nearly impossible. The printer, Rudolf und Fritz Radinger, was a Scheibbs-based local firm — not one of the Vienna trade houses — which accounts for the distinctly regional character of the production. Hans Rohn's involvement as designer is notable; he contributed to several Notgeld series across Lower Austria during this period.
